I have a few tapes of RGB episodes on hand, but I have no idea how to convert them to any type of computer file, be it .AVI, .MPEG, etc. Anyone know how I could go about doing it?

Do you have a way of getting video into your computer? IE, RCA Jacks? or Cable?

I might be able to do that…
If you tell me how…

Keep in mind that I've never done this before and have no idea as to where to start.

a few things you need you will need one of the following, a. video capture card b. tv tuner card.

some video cards come buit in with a tv tuner, or a video capture card.

Most video capture cards have an SVHS port. Although some have standard RCA connectors.

You will also need RCA cables or an RCA To SVHS cable to connect the two together.

your looking at about 100 bucks for a low end, (if your lucky you might find one for $60) Video capture card. If you go the tv tuner route you have to plug the cable from video out on your vcr into the cable (cable is called Coaxile, coax for short) on the back of the tv tuner card. (tv tuner cards can be found for about $50 again for the low end model, shop around and you can get a good deal)

A newer alternative is whats refered to as firewire, or IEE 1394. Although I have only seen 1 model VCR released with a firewire port) again you can probably find a fire wire card for about $50, but then you have to have a vcr that supports firewire. (so thats probably not an option)

So eithier way its not going to be cheap…

I reccomend finding someone with a video capture and a cd burner and having them do it for you. Even if you have to pay them it would be much cheaper then buying the equipment yourself. (especially if you will only get 1 or 2 uses out of it)

Point me in the way of the 1394 VCR.
