We're not crazy, and Harold Ramis is right

I wouldn't let it bug me. I can totally understand why some people could get confused by the antagonist characters. It really is a bit confusing if you think about it from a casual viewers standpoint.

Hell….I didn't fully grasp who was who until I got older.

Well if you think about it the ‘Bad Guys’ in Ghostbusters are Walter Peck and Evo Shandor.

Peck is Literally the bad guy in the film, trying to shut down what he doesn't believe or understand, asserting his power over the busters essentially ruining thier buisness.

But shandor is the real underlying evil bad guy in the film even though he only has the brief mention. What he did brought Gozer to our dimension, without him there would have been no threat for the busters to battle.

Thats why the story from the Video Game is far closer to what Ghostbusters 2 should have been

I disagree with your last statement, and here's why:

I think Ghostbusters 2 filled in the gap between what happens in the game, and the first movie.

Don't forget that at the beginning of the 2nd movie, Ray and Winston are explaining how Ghostbusters collapsed after being sued out the wazoo by NYC. Even in the first movie, the Mayor didn't totally buy that the Ghostbusters were needed. It was because of Vigo terrorizing NYC that they finally realized how much the Ghostbusters are actually needed..even the end scene with the giant banner “Thank You, Ghostbusters”, suggests this: they finally get the acclaim and appreciation they deserve. But it took taking out a 16th Century Moldavian tyrant to do it.

One of my favorite lines in the movie sums it up perfectly “somebody get me the Ghostbusters”; perfect.

The game picks up from there pretty much.
