I dont think if they were not gonna use the car they would not put so much detail on the car like this:

Detail is irrelevant, it could be highly detailed but it doesn't mean it'd be designed to be driven.
So far the reports say the car will be on a ‘rail system’ and can't be driven by the user.

I´d like to see a level where you can drive the ecto-1… just like the levels on Halo3 where you drive warthogs and other vehicles.

As stated, you will NOT be able to drive it. It has been stated many times, even in the early preveiws, that driving the Ecto-1 will not happen anywhere in the game. But they did say it will be involved in game play, don't know how though, just not driving it.

Maybe like some games were the car is been driven by another character and u will be shooting pretty much like GTA like in the boat or in the helicopter, there's a couple of games out there that have that feature with some differences of course.

That appears to be the capacity the car will be used in, as part of a sequence where its racing toward Times Square the player has to blast ghosts who might be trying to damage Ecto-1.

if not any part of a mission, it might be featured in a cutscene of some sort. who knows. i'm hoping for a lot of cutscenes to make it feel more like a movie. not saying there should be less gameplay or anything.

I think they based the new game car mostly off of the Universal Studios Ecto-1 instead of the actual cars. The mirrors, the lights, siren/bullhorn, even the decals on the tanks on the roof, but they did add some stuff from the movie cars.
