What are your thoughts on the new Spider-Man reboot?

I didn't see a topic on this. I'm not really dissappointed after hearing that Raimi wanted to do Vulture as the only villain. Though I think the plans have changed. They've hired a 27 year old (though he'll be 28 when they start filming) named Andrew Garfield to play Peter Parker/Spider-Man. I've never heard of him. But there's no way a 28 year old can pull off a 16 year old for 3 movies. People on imdb keep saying that they think they're gonna change the script so that he's in College. Which basically sounds like they're just making a Spider-Man 4 reboot. Now take in mind that this is only a rumor. There's not even any word on who the villain will be yet.

I'm really mixed on this. The rumors that I had heard said that they were going back to completely re-do the origin story with Parker in High School. We just had that with the last series not too long ago and I thought it was awesome. While I would agree that SM2 and 3 weren't spectacular (for the most part I enjoyed 3 - I just wish they hadn't done the whole “oh we got it wrong and really it was this other guy who murdered your uncle” schtick) I don't think that's a reason to reboot from the beginning. At least not yet. Batman Begins worked because there was plently of time between Batman and Robin and Nolan's reboot, not to mention it was a complete reworking of the series for something much darker. I think the SM movies we have now were “real” enough.

I didn't really care for that either. I also didn't like that Venom was forced into the movie. Eddie Brock/Venom was only in the movie for like 30 minutes. 15 minutes for Eddie Brock's story and 15 minutes as Venom. I actually liked Venom but since Raimi wasn't a fan of him they shouldn't have made him do it. And it sucked. I've actually read that the more Venom comics that Raimi read, the more he hated him.
I just saw a link with some interesting news. http://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/Kaboom/news/?a=19819
It sounds like they're actually going to have a 28 year old playing a 15 year old. Why couldn't they have hired someone younger? Why are they always having people in their mid to late 20s playing teenagers? It makes no sense.

I'm open to this reboot, I wasn't a fan of Raimi's Spider-Man films outside of the second one.

I rather much dislike the look of the “new costume” and the way the actor looks in it. I loved the first 2 Spiderman Movies..(hated the 3rd. I am a Venom Fan…guess why I hated the last movie?)

Personally, What I think they need to do is just make a 4th movie in the same vein as the batman movies did for so long: Just get new actors but keep them in continuity with each other. Either that or pull a Highlander and make a sequel as if the previous sequel never happened. Either one would be acceptable to me.

This movie does not sit well with me. Sure, Raimi's had their problems, but Garfield just looks wrong for the role, wrong in the costume, and I have a feeling this movie isn't going to jumpstart the franchise as they'd like.
