What car do you think they will use for the new film? They probably won't use the original Ecto 1. What car do you think?

I understand the need to brand a new generation of Ghostbusters, but I really don't see the need to mess with the ride. It would be classic Hollywood to emblazon the image of a Hummer across the screen (ala Batman).

I think they should stick with the Ecto and instead of trying to reinvent the wheel (no pun intended), perhaps they should introduce an auxiliary vehicle, like the Ecto-2 in The Real Ghostbusters or the Batwing from Tim Burton's Batman.

There's no real reason why they can't use the original Ecto-1, it's in better shape than it has been in years.

Good point, I hadn't thought of that. Jack is assuming (much like I am) that the screenwriters would want to take a “bigger, faster, stronger” approach to the car by default.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game bucked the “licensed property video games suck” constant. I have faith Ghostbusters III can do the same in terms of the “sequels suck” / venom of Spiderman 3.

I can see them using Ecto 1 and then part way through, get a new car, as hollywood likes to do that. I hope not as if they use Ecto 1, then don't need to ditch it on screen.

They're using the same van in The A-Team remake, so why wouldn't they use Ecto 1 in a sequel? Do you mean the original, as in the one they actually used in GB1 or not Ecto 1 at all?

Personally, I can see them making a few modifications to it, adding new electronics inside it (which they actually did to the real Ecto 1 by adding a DVD player lol). I don't really want to see a new ecto made from an SUV or something. If they did, Dan would probably fight it, cause he loves that car.

I'd like to see the the Ecto 1 from GB1 used in GB3, but would the people who make it use a modern car instead of the original?

Something like this:

I think somebody has made a Ghostbusters version of one of these already.

If the original from GB1 is still up and running, they can use that if they wanted too. There's no need to buy a totally different and new car, refurbish with new stuff to try and pass it off as the original ecto 1 for the film, if it's still working.

Why didn't they just rip all of the equipment off of the Ecto 1 and totally redesign it for GB2? Because, that would be sacrilege.

They couldn't use the original, unmodified, Ecto 1 in a modern movie. The look of the equipment is totally out dated. I'd imagine that they'd want to put LED light bars and etc on it too and probably update the colour scheme a bit…

Therefore, either they will have to find another 59 MM Caddy and do a new twist on the original Ecto like they did with the 1A, or they will have to start anew with a totally different car…

Personally, I'd rather have them go out and get another car and leave the original Ecto 1 in a museum rather than having them remove all the equipment from the original and adding more modern equipment to update the look. I'm sure 90% of you will disagree with me for no other reason than to just disagree with me though.

This is too smiliar to the “will they use new packs” thread. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The packs, and the car is too iconic and recognized to mess with too much. I can picture some changes but not too many.
