What car do you think they will use?

I"ll put money down that they're using the original Ecto-1.

First of all, if you've not yet seen the refurbishment video, go check it out. Then use the good ol' ghosthead reasoning power and realize that Sony spent thousands of dollars to restore Ecto-1. Dan himself shows up to give the car a spin and loves it. Sony wouldn't spend that kind of cash and then give Dan a trip around in the car if they didn't intend on using it. And you can take that to the bank.

How many “reboots” or “remakes” have you seen where they take all of the props used in the original and then turn around and use them in the new movie 25 years later?

Sony didn't put money into fixing up Ecto for a new movie. In case some of you children haven't noticed, the movie hasn't been “green lit” yet. That basically means don't hold your breath. So your argument is that Sony knew they might be considering a new movie a year into the future so that's why they fixed up the car? Why didn't they just use the original Ecto, the original GB patch and not introduce the slime blower in GB2? BTW, Sony put money into Ecto so that they could parade it around to hundreds of events around the country to promo the video game and the blu ray. The first time they refurbed Ecto was to promo the slime pack DVD set. If it wasn't for these new money making projects, they wouldn't have spent a dime on it. They don't care about you and your precious love for Ghostbusters… Well maybe they do from a marketing standpoint only…

Similarly, Dan only went to see the Ecto after being refurbed so that Sony could put it on the Blu Ray and then promo that as a REASON FOR YOU TO BUY IT! In case you didn't know, Dan owns 1/5 of the rights to Ghostbusters. He makes money on everything that has a no ghost logo on it! He actually made money by going to drive the Ecto around because it sold more copies of the Blu Ray. He didn't just do it because he's a nice guy that genuinely cares about the car! How naive can we be!?

This is just like the video game, everyone here is so desperate to see a complete rehash that they hope nothing new is done to the franchise and that everything should just reinforce what they already believe. Well guess what? That isn't how Hollywood works! Sorry folks, but there is going to be a new story, new characters, and yes, NEW equipment. Like think about it, with all the advances in technology, why would the GBs still be using stuff from 1984? That makes absolutely no sense.

Get ready for big changes if there is a new movie. Most of you probably won't like those changes!

As sad as the possibility is, I think StayinPuft's right. And no its not sad because he mentioned it, but because if the current Hollywood trend of updating and f*cking up beloved franchises holds true, im scared of what will happen to the GB franchise. Good example right off my head, GI Joe and the New Cobra Commander helmet. WTF were they thinking?! But yes, this is a sequel and not techincally a reboot in that we are starting over.

I was going to ask if anyone ever knew for sure if Dan “loved” that car. I wondered why he didn't have his own copy made (celebrity example: About half the cast of Dukes of Hazzard and their own Chargers). We know he loves cars and cycles. Im sure he's got a Bluesmobile in one of his garages somewhere that never sees the light of day. But then again, does he own any copies of his famous cars?

Id really would love to see at least an Ecto close enough to the original it would only be minor differences, like Stayinpuft said about the new LED strobelights cops have. But one only has to look as far as EGB for precedent on updating the equipment. Old guys wear old packs for little while, then new guys get the brandspankin new upgrades. Im still puzzled myself over why the EGB Ecto only had one light bar. Ecto must have 2!

A Rolls eh? Well maybe but I think IF they do decide to go with the idea of a new movie they most likely will rule out a new car of any choice and stick to the same car the guys have been using since the first film lol. No offence of course, rolls are a very classic vehicle and a nice ride

Hi. I think you may be lost.

This message board is about the 1984 sci-fi comedy “Ghostbusters”, it's sequel “Ghostbusters II”, and all things related to it.

The James Bond message boards are down the block a ways.

I hope they do use the original Ecto, or at least a modernised miller meteor. I also hope they use the same style of proton packs.

I'm not sure if anybody saw the reboot of Knight Rider? (I think it was in 2006) They didn't use KITT from the 1980's show, they had a brand new car.

This is why I think that they won't use the original equipment, they'll use an updated/modern car.

There's the thing. It was REBOOT. I think it was expected that the same KITT wouldn't be used. Because it's a modern version of the show, they'd be using a modern car.

But, as I said, the same van is going to used for The A-Team remake. Things don't always change because it's going to be more modern. I don't know about the Packs though.

A new model was kind of expected. The new KITT was explained in the series as a new model: Knight Industries Three Thousand (opposed the the Knight Industries Two Thousand of the original show). I can certainly see them using something newer for GB - heck it makes sense that the old Caddy wouldn't last forever - and it will be the Ecto **something** (Don't know if they'll stick to 1 and a letter, or give it a higher number). But with all the restoration done on the original Ectos, I would think that they should at least make an appearance.

Would be funny if they get a new car by their new corporate management / marketing / CEOs / Weapons / Science Department. They also gave them new packs and weapons, and a shiny new car. However the packs add to the problem in the movie (say an inter-dimension thingy) and the car is crumpled by a huge ghost (or Winston makes it have an ‘accident’)

They'd have to grab their packs and jump-start their Ecto-1 from a GB Museum to ‘Save The World’
