Story:
I love how this game makes me completely forget about GB2! :-O This game had little to no references towards GB2 which made it feel more like a direct sequel to GB1. Ramis and Ackroyd did a fantastic job of setting up the story, developing it through the course of the game and creating a wide variety of ghosts to trap.
Weapons:
Let's face it the proton pack is this coolest weapon out there. So, how do you expand on it and make it better? Modify it, do not cannibalize it! I was so nervous that they proton pack would be cut apart and stripped down. Early pictures gave me a bit of worry. But I loved how each and every nob, wire, clip and tube was given a function.
Just a few more bells and whistle make it more flashy, literally, but you know you are still looking at your favorite unlicensed nuclear accelerator. I got quite attached using the stasis stream and boson darts.
Ghosts & Ghouls:
You can tell great detail went into designing each ghost and ghoul. Three favorites make an appearance: Slimer, Stay-Puft and The Librarian Ghost No physical changes were made to either one which I really, really enjoyed. Why mess with a good thing? Slimer is still the food hungry, slimy little spud you've grown to love. Stay-Puft is back but has been given some ability to create some fearsome minions himself in the form of hot, spooky smores that'll get you! (*_*) And our favorite librarian, now given the game, Elinor Twitter has returned shushing us throughout the library. They even dubbed the “shhhhhhhhhhh” from the original movie too! Sweeeeeet!
Villain(s):
Ivo Shandor! I always have been a fan when a villain who was only mentioned, never seen, makes a surprise appearance. This actually was a surprise to me and I was expecting more of a RETURN OF GOZER story-line. The Shandor / Alyssa story almost reminded me of the Da Vinci Code but it still worked. I especially enjoyed him using the librarian ghost as part of his evil plan. It really makes us take another look at her as a quiet, innocent old woman…er, ghost who just could move to the other side. One of my all-time favorite cut scenes was the lead up to the battle of Ivo Shandor vs the Ghostbusters. Reference to Gozer then him holding up a skull with the same hairstyle made me laugh. Even the appearance of terror dog status in the background were a nice touch.
Gameplay:
It takes a few rounds to get use to the proton pack and just how to work it. Using it does feel almost out of control but soon you'll be trapping them like a pro. It doesn't take long to get us to the controls but during high impact battles you get excited and may end up venting your pack when you wanted to fire your secondary weapon. It happened to me a lot (HAHA). Each boss has a level of difficult which will take a few round to discover their weakness and the best way to expose it. Some are easier than others but for the most part it's an excellent challenge. The difficulty increases as you move through the game. So when you're not flying solo it really, really is about teamwork. Get ready to get frustrated too. TIP: When battling ghouls that come in every direction remember not to always be standing by your fellow Ghostbuster. If a group of you goes down it makes it all that much harder for help to come. So, keep a safe distance but ALWAYS remember where you're teammates are. There really isn't anything like busting a ghost on your own
Characters:
Everyone did a great job of coming back reprising their roles. The voice talent and script worked extremely well. You get a feeling that these guys have been together for many, many years. Janine was back too with her catchy NY accent and enjoyable quick comments. Walter Peck also returned but I felt there was something missing in his voice this time around. He didn't seem as hard and was a bit toned down. I could go on and on about each one but basically everyone is great in this next chapter. It really shows they all did their work and held nothing back for the fans. Of all the guys I felt Dan Ackroyd really put his heart into this one.
