What if we got a remake instead of a 3rd film?

I was reading some of the hate towards the rumors of GB3. With the guys being older and not being able to carry the load of busting ghosts why not just re-boot the whole series. Learn from their mistaks of the past and do at least a trilogy.

Now I know many of you are thinking that this would be crazy because of how much we love our past Ghostbuters. When you stop and think about it though it would make more sense to keep Venkman, Stanz, Spengler and Winston alive and young instead of one eyed, fat and gimp.

Here is my idea for the cast:

Venkman: Jason Segal
Stanz: Zach Galifianakis
Egon: Jessie Eisenberg
Winston: Texas Battle
Janine: Emma Stone

I am so tired of all these freaking remakes nowadays. Friday the 13th, Arthur, Dawn of the dead and so on and on and on. So… NO, I don't want to see GB remade. The closest thing to it that I would be able to accept would be a new animated spinoff.

I think “Hell” and “no!” best sum up my feelings on the subject.

Remake, let me think about that…NO!

I agree. The original is just too perfect, and there's not much more a new writer or director could do to make it fresh.

Having said that, I think a good idea would be to shift the focus out of New York, with an all-new team somewhere across the country. Or why not even in another country? Ghosts are, after all, universal in almost every culture.

Really, though, the only good I can see in a remake is if it showed the progression of GB science to the present day. Even then, let the original stand.

I've said this before on the subject of “moving the action away”, and I'm sure I'll be saying it again. New York is as much an essential character in the Ghostbusters universe as Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler, Winston Zeddemore and Janine Melnitz. Shifting the focus has worked for the fan films because they aren't able to utilise those characters, but if we're going to get a new film I would not want it to move out of New York.

Although it would probably be crap, a remake is inevitable. Maybe not any time soon, but it will eventually happen.

Hell….from what we've heard, the third film will essentially be a reboot. The whole point of the thing is to bring in younger actors to potentially carry the franchise on.

Either way, the originals or new guys, the Ghostbusters will eventually be back in a new film. You can count on that. Sony has dollar signs in their eyes…

Maybe that's why they seem to have been stumbling blindly about with the franchise for several years.
