The 21st centure began in 2001 not 2000. I know that the years is never revealed in GB1 but don't they say its '89 in GB2? And of course GB2 was “5 years later.”

I'm pretty sure that the 21st century began in 2000 bro just as the 20th century began in 1900.

That's actually a famous misconception. The new millennium was meant to start in 2001, but people clung onto ‘2000’ for some silly reason.

Besides, the reason Ray said “Vigo wants in on the 21st century” because if born into Oscar, by the time the year 2001 swung around, he'd be old enough to start causing some damage.

But anyway, I think that the Ghostbusters movies are set in present day and I seriously doubt that Ghostbusters II was set in 1999.

From what? What distinguishes Ghostbusters as a 90's movie?

I'll have to try to find the quote later, but Reitman has even been quoted as having said that he “convinced Aykroyd to make the movie present day, rather than in the future”.

Also given the fact that its been stated that Ghostbusters: The Video Game, takes place in 1991, 2 years after the events of Ghostbusters II, meaning Ghostbusters II is in 1989, and given the fact that Ghostbusters II starts with “5 Years Later”, that would mean Ghostbusters took place in 1985.

Well, if you think about it it makes sense. There was no year 0000. It began with 0001 and went to 0100. That's the first century, the first hundred years. If a century is 100 years, then surely the first century wouldn't be 0000-0099, making the next century 0100-0199, etc. This century lasts from Jan 1, 2001 - Dec 31, 2100.

So if that is a few years from ‘present day’ then its safe to say that GB 2 was meant to be 89 and since its ‘5 years later’ from gb 1 that places that one in 84. Man I feel like a nerd right now.

This alone proves that Ghostbusters did not take place in the 90's as its impossible by that timeline. To humor you, jka12002, even if Ghostbusters II was taking place in 1991, and Venkman was suggesting only a year, that would still put Ghostbusters as having taken place in 1987.

That was just to humor you though, I'm in no way suggesting that's the actual timeline. Both movies take place in their respective release years.
