we'd all love to shout out “2003” but i dont know. as much as they look like there from the 80's i have a weird feeling that it may be further into the future.

It honestly doesn't matter. You wouldn't have to change much for GB to be in 2003 instead of 1984. Sure, that would mean GB2 couldn't happen at the time it was intended to, but there are more similarities between the movie of 1984 and today than there are differences…

Larry King is still broadcasting (albeit on TV, as I recall); Casey Kasem is still broadcasting; most - if not all - the magazines on the montage are still in print…
The only real invalidations would be the absence of the WTC (I think the twin towers appear in one of the long shots), and the newspaper headline “Princess Di Expecting!”. And then there are the changes in fashion and hair styles from the last 20 years, but those are no biggie.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks for spoiling Gangs of new york Smoking Trap , anyway Red already said it takes place in the present 2003 but with an 80's feel to it. Not to hard to imagine since alot of aspects of the 80's are coming back anyway.

The eighties feel is very important for a GB revival. It was one thing (among others) that EGB lacked. I really hope they spend enough time on that look this time.

I'm sure it takes place in the 21st century. At least, I hope it does.

I wouldn't mind it if it were in ‘03, though that removes the resource of the WTC, let’s see what happens.

Kingpin, aside from a scenery element, how would you define the WTC as a “resource”? (Sure, it could be a story setting, but there are hundreds of skyscrapers in the Big Apple… what would make it different in the context of a GB story?).

That said, comics do employ suspension of disbelief. There's no reason the WTC has to have been destroyed in the GB universe, and no reason we can't see a flashback story that might use it that's set any time up to mid-2001.

It would be callous of the GB comic to have the WTC in it and people would surely take offense at that even if it was set before 9/11.

Fair enough.
I guess it's closer to the hearts of a lot of our members (and the potential market for the GB comics) than it is to me, because of where I live.
Not that I don't regard it as an evil act or a tragedy, and I'm not trying to start a flame war, either. I guess I just have sufficient physical and emotional difference to say I'd be able to accept it in fiction.

Of course, everyone's opinion may differ here, so I'll just shut up and forget I used it as an example of what's changed between 1984 and 2003.

seeing something like that wouldnt upset a lot of people, but i think producers realize that it may upset a few people. and they also do it out of respect…

although i could think of some really cool scenarios 2 busters on top of each tower, busting a ghost hovering between the two buildings and the streams coming together in the middle…. make it even better throw one ghostbuster at street level with a trap, and the trap sucks it all the way from the top to the very botoom…
