What's your usual screen resolution ?

After posting my website, it seemed that it might be a bit too small on some screens, but I certainly don't want to make it too big either.

So for future reference, what's your usual screen resolution setting ?

When creating a website, make it work for 1024x768 and then you are fine. I got an ibook 12 inch, I do 1024x768 on it, then at work it is 1600x1200. Looks good on both.

Then I'll resize it to fit 1024x768. I just don't want people squinting to be able to read the content.

Thanks for your input !

What type of web builder are you using? I believe there's options in things like Dreamweaver which can format text to appear at a particular percent of the screen size… similar to how some page panels can be told to be a certain size on all screens…

The design looks nice so far, looking forward to seeing the final result.

I'm using mostly notepad, but I also have Dreamweaver installed somewhere. I'll take a look at these function.

Since I'll still trying to figure out what to add to the site, I'm going to take my time and will build it directly in 1024x768.

A new version should be up during the week.

If you use percentages for all of your site's measurements, instead of exact measurements (pixels), your website should shrink and expand to fit any screen resolution.

I myself only have experience with using exact measurements because my personal site, an art site, contains a lot of graphics. Precise measurements lead to faster loading times but less flexibility, while percentages lead to greater flexibility with slower load times.

My page looks best at 1024 X 768 but I kept the overall width of each section under 800. I did this because I believe the standard is still 800 X 600 (horizontal scroll bars are annoying).

I use notepad and good ole html. Search for Arachnaphilia, it is small app that is good. The new java version is ok, but on the apps site there is a link to the old version.

Ah, Notepad, that's not a program I've heard in a long time.

My screen res is 1024x768. And when I make websitse I tend to sit them under 800px wide so they'll look good on most monitors.
