no, really, Which one of the ghostbusters built the packs? Egon? And where did he get all that stuff anyway? It's not like we have real particle accelerators on our prop packs….. Where would Egon find one?

This is really funny……Egon and Ray probably built the packs in the movie because venkman is a complete idiot. Whoever built them FOR the movie worked for Columbia Pictures. Remember the packs were not licensed so the ghostbusters had to build them in secret unless they wanted to go to jail for VERY long time

in the movie, it was Spengler & Stantz (Spengs for the most part) who built them. There were deleted scenes (that didn't make it to the DVDs) where it shows Spengs working on the equipment.
