Who would you cast as replacements for the original team?

I won't accept a new cast. A new cast would almost be as bad as a remake.

Back in 1986, they said the same thing about Star Trek: The Next Generation. Fans were in an uproar about the new show without Kirk, Spock and McCoy.

Well, we got Picard, Riker and Data so I'd say it worked out pretty well. The same thing could work for Ghostbusters, so long as the new team is trained by the originals (at least Stantz and Spengler). The key to making it work is making sure the new characters are as well developed as possible.

I'll never understand the why people never stops suggesting Vince Vaughn for Venkman… that guy just sucks he's not even funny… (*egon)

I'm not a fan of dodgeball type comedy, I agree. Vaughn has a completely different style that fits what Murray put forth as Venkman.

But you just said in your previous post replacing the OG(B) with Vince Vaugn and other people. If they're bringing back Stantz, Venkman, they MUST be the same people. I won't accept anyone else. However, I could accept a story where they just get new members. But you didn't mention new members, you said Vaugn to replace Venkman, etc.

if the original cast was replaced by new actors playing the same roles, the only reason i would go to see it would be because im a big fan of pretty much anything that contains the words “ghost” and “busters” in the title. hell, i even liked Extreme Ghostbusters.

I posted this on another board, but IF Ghostbusters was to be cast in 2007 then here are my candidates (this is NOT to replace the movie, but rather, if the movie had been made in this year rather than back in the 80's)…but IF there was a way to ‘substitute’ the original characters, then these might be possibilities as well…

I also agree with those that say that Winston's character cannot be too overbearing (and Will Smith, Chris Rock, Chris Tucker WOULD BE too overbearing, and too big of a celebrity to fittingly play the role IMO)…Winston was the strong silent type with the occasional crack here and here (which made him more funny)…I also dont' see Jack Black anywhere on the team – even as Ray, he's too eccentric…

okay, I'm not taking all things into consideration here…some of the people I've selected as character candidates were mostly based on physical features…others I thought would bring more to the role…remember, I'm not looking at the entire package (WHO, for gosh sakes, would have Egon's hair, height, and voice?)…just who could ‘possibly’ play the role based on physical appearance and sometimes other things influenced my decision…

as follows:

PETER VENKMAN: I chose

Vince Vaughan - comedic timing is great

Johnny Knoxville - has that whole bad boy thing going on

Collin Farrel - total womanizer, would play the role well (with his NY accent of course…think “Phone Booth”)

RAY STANZ: I chose

Matthew Brodrick – great comedic actor, loveable, cute

Kevin James – he has the giddy kid-like quality

WINSTON ZEDDEMORE:

Taye Diggs – yum

Morris Chestnut - great actor…

I thought about Jamie Foxx but his personality would be too overbearing for this role…Winston was more chill…

EGON SPENGLER:

This of course was a tough one…I may need you to use your imagination…but I'm NOT looking at what they've done in the past, their celebrity ‘status’ I'm looking at someone who can sell being smart, but also has to be attractive as we do know Spengs gets the ladies

Matthew McConaghy - totally think he's got the bone structure of Egon

David Schwimmer - we know he can do “adorably nerdy” as we've seen on Friends (hair colour might be an issue though…)

Matthew Fox - if you watch LOST you'll know that homeboy has got some issues, that have caused him to be emotionally detached (much like Egon)…very convincing in that role

here's him in Smokin' Aces (minus the 'stache for Egon though)

I don't see him quite as nerdy in the role, more like this with small glasses

JANINE MELNITZ:

This was a tough one, depending on how you see “Janine” unconventionally pretty, then I'd chose either:

Sarah Jessica Parker - she has that whole New York edge thing going on…

Debra Messing - we know she looks good as a redhead! And she'd be funny as hell (doesn't hurt that she was born in Brooklyn, NY!)

(here she is big cheap earrings and all!)

If you're more of the train of thought that Ms.Melnitz is some hot woman, then theres

Christina Applegate (her features in this picture for some reason really look like the animated Janine)

Jennifer Anistan - she has that strong chin, and I loved how she played the jealous role on Friends

Uma Thurman - now bear with me…there's something subtly sexy about gangly, awkward Uma…I can totally see it…she would definately bring the edge that Janine has to the role…

replace gun with blaster

as a redhead

When I think of any of those actors filling the shoes of the originals, I want to kill myself.

In all honesty, after seeing both Knocked Up and the 40 Year Old Virgin, and the tv shoe UnDeclared, I really think these guys are the ones for the job:

Not to mention their past and upcoming involvment with Harold Ramis.

true. i think if an r-rated remake was ever an option, these guys would be the ones to tackle it. they would completely steal the show from the originals in a sequel though

Doesn't even have to be R rated…really.
