Why did the ecto and ecto 1a have differant names

I noticed it the first time I saw GB2 at The Chinese theatre (and I used to own an original ECTO 2 plate, so I was looking for it. It was a lot easier to see in the Movie theatre!!

Ecto-1 and Ecto-1A are VASTLY different. But in EGB, the name is still Ecto-1 but is so different it's not even funny. It's got rollcages, really weird lookin' steel bumpers, and new high-tech stuff.
A side-note, Ecto-2 is the copter, and Ecto-3 is a really weird motocycle that the GBs can make by taking various parts off the Ecto and putting 'em together. Only seen in one episode (i think.) The only one I can rememeber they used it in was the one when the cartoon character comes to life and terrorizes New York. (Name of episode anyone?…)

I wanna check out the ECTO-2 license plat in GB2!
I think they couldn't decide whether to make it ECTO-2 or ECTO-1a so they filmed a scene with the “2” license plat then later on changed it to “1a” without noticing it or bothering to redo that scene.
Anyway, it's just an assumption.

joseph… do you still own the ecto 2 plate? are you gonna have one on ebay? do you know anymore about how the ecto 2 was going to be used in the movie?

If you look at the scenes in GB2 that feature the Ecto, you will also notice that there are 2 different versions of the Ecto-1a Plate.. Keep an Eye out for where the Statue of Liberty is on the plate.. (Hint: She moves around a bit)
Just an Interesting little Factoid I like to confuse folks at Car shows with. I have both versions of the 1a plate made for my 1a replica. And I've had folks point at the plate and tell me its wrong.. Then you send them off and have them check.. Or even better, have them sit inside and check the DVD that's playing for themselves.. Muhahahahaha..
The Ecto-2 Plate is next on my list of things to add to the car.. 'm sure folks are going to comment on THAT one when its done.

I sold my original ECTO 2 plate to Planet Hollywood. I needed the money.
I do still own one of the original Plastic ECTO 1A plates from the movie and New “Original” plates of ECTO-1 (Metal), ECTO-1 (Plastic), ECTO 1 (GB2 Metal) ECTO 1 (GB2 Plastic)
I can get an ECTO 2 in Metal or plastic, I probally will get one just to complete the set.

The Ecto1a is correct. there are two different 1A plates in the movie.
The one I have is not the one you see in the close up before they go get the Statue of Liberty, its the other one

An interesting note:
When i was looking through the movie book, one of the pictures had ‘1A outside the firehall the liberty on the plate was on the end of the lettering(you can probably see this when it’s leaving the firehall with louis chasing it). Then when they look at the plate before liberty, she's in between the “ECTO” and the “1A”.
