Disney& other foolish studios that won't release full screen, November 29, 2003
Reviewer: Scott Mitchell (see more about me) from Wasilla, Ak USA
This is an absolutely fantastic movie, but for Disney not to release a full screen version is disgraceful. Probably 95% of the population does not have widescreen TV, and yet the studios continue to force widescreen DVD's on us. Bless the few studios that put both versions(one on each side). I, for one, refuse to buy widescreen DVD's. And I will not buy VHS…get it Disney? I don't buy your movie. I rent the VHS and make a copy…now I've got the MPAA mad, and you could so easily make everyone happy, and yourself millions more to boot. Now for the movie…Depp is incredible in the swashbuckler role, being funny, cute, debonair, and just an incredible actor. The movie will keep you entertained throughout, and isn't that why we like movies to begin with. Highly reccomend for those who buy VHS and those with widescreens…for everyone else(90%)of America, hold out till they realize they are missing the big picture(FULL SCREEN RELEASES!!!)

What the hell.

I never liked widescreen until I saw a speical a year or so back on AMC. They showed the difference between wide and full screen and it blew me away. Since then I want all my movies to be widescreen. It does take some getting used to though.

What's appalling is that there are actually DVD's out there that are only available in “pan and scan” format *shivers*. I love paying top dollar for movies that look like crap. :@

Yeah, I never understood the anti-widescreen people.

Their argument doesn't make sense. They feel gypped because there's no picture at the very top and bottom of their screen (some people actually say “I don't like it when they cut off the top and bottom of the movie”, the truth of course being that nothing has been cut which is why it's “widescreen”), they instead demand full screen where they actually do get gypped because the sides of the film have been hacked off.

Doesn't surprise me though.

I have to agree. There's a scene in GB2 where Dana's getting out of Jonash(sp?) asking her out as she's leaving the museum and she makes a face after turning around (her back to him) after he asks if he has bad breath. If you own it on VHS you don't see that face she makes and at first I looked a little confused because I remembered her making that face, but of course the pan and scan version cut that off. When I finally got it on DVD I was able to see it because it was in the full format like it had been when it was in theatre's.

I was a full screen person until someone convinced me to get widescreen Spidey. Further helping the case was when TBS played the pan & scan version of Ghostbisters and I saw crap I NEVER EVER saw on VHS. Widescreen all the way.

Don't get me started on Fool Screen/Pan and Scam. :@ I got so pissed off at this lady at Wal-Mart the other day. She's having an employee get a copy of T3 out of the case. “Do you want Widescreen or Full Screen?”, “Full.”.

Now in this case it was OK to get full screen since the WS T3 DVD is misframed througout the entire film(minues the effects shots) and it was shot in Super 35 anyway, so “FS” is the original filming ratio(albeit, not the original theatrical ratio.).

Anyway, that's not what pissed me off. She then says “You're getting cheated with the Widescreen! You don't get the top and bottom of the screen and I hate that. And the black bars are annoying.”. %*%&)^$!@%#*%!!!!! The employee tried to tell her otherwise but she ignored him. And here's the funny part, they walk off with the DVD and the lady with her says “But don't you have a Widescreen TV?”. HAHA! Enjoy your black BLOCKS on the left and right of the screen!

Pisses me off to no end. They insist fool screen is the way to go because you “Don't get the whole picture.”. SPREAD THE WORD! FULL SCREEN IS EEEEEVIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIL! :-@

*ahem* Sorry. I'm very sensivtive of my Widescreen…

I know exactly what you are talkin about. I was Kmart one day and there was a guy asking for a movie. And he said “All you have is widescreen?!”, like it was a bad thing so he didnt buy the movie. I dont have a widescreen tv either, but widescreen is still 100x better, because it doesnt matter what kinda tv you got. You still see EVERYTHING.

I started to like widescreen ever since the first time I actually saw Pete Venkman in the lift scene
