Why dont people understand Widescreen is better!!!

I hate Pan/Scam with a passion now that I've seen Widescreen, so much stuff is chopped off due to it! The Eiffel Tower collapsing on the Armageddon VHS (Didn't even know it was there until seeing a Special FX documentary), Egon in the Sedgewick Lobby, and so on.

It is EVIL.

People who insist Full Screen, or Pan/Scam is better then Widescreen don't know what they're missing, thank goodness my family recognises Widescreen for what it is.

i agree , i've heard people whine about the “big black lines that make the screen smaller ” the movie is so much better that way . and have you noticed the very annoying panning going on in the gb1 dvd ? i can't stand that , and the only way not to see it is to watch it wide screen ( like it should be ) besides , a few minutes into the movie you don't even notice the bars ….so whats the big deal ?

ECTO-1
You know, in actuality sometimes it really doesn't matter. There are various movies/scenes where even with full screen you don't miss a helluva lot. Then there are those movies where you got cool stuff in the background or characters being cut out, which require widescreen treatment.

Yeah, but I hate having Harold Ramis cut off on the full screen version during the Sedgewick scene! :p

I hate films not in wide-screen. Seeing GB again at the Orpheum Theater and seeing Egon telling Pete how much to charge was funny; on VHS you don't get that, or on full-screen.

Uh, Evil, I covered that in the last sentence.

I personally like widescreen better but I huess some people would rather see the top and bottom and not the sides. Who knows why.

(*peter) I like my picture to take up the whole screen so pardon me while I stay in the dark ages. Widescreen movies suck. Those bars a SO freakin' annoying! I like the pan and scan better.
I don't happen to like it that they're trying to force it on us, like HDTV or whatever the heck it was. I saw one of those widescreen TV's and they look awful.
For my b-day, my fiance got me this flat monitor, it's nice and all but it's WAY too wide to suit me. Imagine my monitor at 20 to 40 inches… and you have the sucker I saw. Watching the shows on it was horrid, the images were all distorted. Bleah! Gimme fullscreen anyday.

I usually just pick up whatever I end up picking. I don't care if it's wide or full, as long as I get my movie. I do prefer DVDs that have both versions though in the same package.

Why are we still talking about this? Full-screen pan-and-scan is dying a slow death. Even Blockbuster, one of its last strongholds, has begun to abandon it.

In five years, full screen will be dead.

If you want a good comparison to prove someone wrong, take Ghostbusters II and show them the toaster scene in both formats. There's a guy on each side being cut out…
