no way the any of the ecto cars would be $750,000. i've seen an original a. furst/keaton batmobile, screen used, direct from warner bros. for $250,000. and that was museum quality. if sony did want to sell, even the 1a, being all juked up and in need of restoration, i don't think it would top $750K. it's easy to say that the 1a would be cheaper, since gb2 was less successfull than the original. too bad any of us ghostheads aren't millionaires…

You forget, Sony is a money hunger studio…In other words they don't care as long as they get some dough!

Since sony is a money hunger machine I dont think that 750K would really make their bank account go sky high. I mean lets put it this way they proably make about a billion dollars a year I think sony had the record for the most money pulled in by films for a year in 98. Anyway that money they make off the ectos is just a nickel they find in their pocket. It seems like alot to us but to them its proably more trouble just gettin them ready to sell. thats the way they probaly see it.

They dont sell the cars because they dont have to. It doesnt cost them anything to keep them. And there is nothing to be gained by selling them.

Also, its not a fair comparison to make between the Batmobiles and the Ecto. They made Multiple Batmobiles for the movies. The Ectos they made 1 of each. So, in terms of collectibility, they are going to be worth more. Also, the 1a is going to be worth more than the Ecto-1 just due to the fact that they have more money invested into the car. (Those LED signs werent cheap)

Bottom line, If they did come up for sale (Which is Not likely), a Museum would get them as the prices would be Extremely high. Well out of reach for the casual collector.. And condition really doesnt matter when it comes to valuation on a car that is One of a kind. Rare cars have gone for higher than $750K needing total restoration just based on their rarity.

My Ecto-1a Replica is worth more than $90k. Good luck getting a studio to let an original go for that little..

Its not about the money, its just that sony is too stupid to sell them. They will sit out for years until they are so beat up that they will be used for supplies in other movies. They should sell them so they can be kept up properly.

ECTO1A is right.
The studios rarely let things out unless they need the room, cars usually dont get sold, as they may have a use in the future for them, that might mean reuse as ECTOs or a complete redo of one or both cars and tehn they would be barely recognizable as what they once were.
That is the way Hollywood does things.
and it they did sell a car museum would get it at I would guess over $100k easy
For the most part Hollywook does not care about “saving” things like this everything useed in a move is expensive and it it can be reused in another movie they save money, Histoy is on teh screen not parked on the back lot

Actually old cars increase in value as the years go by, so sony is actually smart by keeping those cars for as long as they want because every year they are worth more money. Which leads back to why I said they are not selling: money. smile

just cause a car gets older does not exactly mean that thier values get higher. Are gremlins going sky high now. But I must say i think the ecto 1 would be higher than teh Ecto 1A even if more money went into the Ecto 1A. The Ecto 1 was part of movie history being one of the highest grossing films of the 80s and being one of the biggest comedy of all time its going to have more value.
