If the actors wanted to make GB3 bad enough they would buy the rights to, otherwise they've moved on. Whether dan wants to make another sequel or not doesnt make a difference, technically it isnt his movie anymore, its columbia/tristars.

They have tried to buy the rights, the problem is, Bill Murray absolutely positively refuses to sell them.

Murray doesn't have the rights. He's just an actor. He's not listed as producer or writer anywhere.

He has a percentage of the RESIDUALS, the profit percentage for the first two films (more for the second) but he is not under contract for GB because he could be forced to make a crap movie if he were so contracted. He is only connected to the property by the desire of the writers, producers and studio to bring him back for the role of Venkman. In several interviews, he has said that he won't be a part of a third movie UNLESS it was a tremendous script in his view.

It took a miracle, a midnight dinner in the back of an Italian restaurant with all the principals, a promise of a LOT of back end cash and the friendship of the team to get Murray to sign.

wow…I think some of us need to calm down.

Maybe Murray just doesn't want GB3 to be bad. It's that easy…how would YOU like to be known for 2 good movies, and a piece of shit. GB1 and 2 were wonderful movies and great sellers.

"It wasn't , but that's beside the point." Well…last time I checked the international market…GB2 made more money INTERNATIONALLY then GB1 (and came in around 21 or 24 I think)

maybe Murray really isn't an asshole, and is just trying to keep a classic movie just that

Worldwide Take -
Ghostbusters - 291.6M
Ghostbusters 2 - 215.0M
(according to Internet Movie Database)

Of course, you can get different numbers from different sources, so yours are as valid as mine. Generally, GB2 wasn't as successful because it wasn't as good as the first. Just highly critical about the franchise, I am.

But check the international market…GB2 grossed more internationally…
