Sad, first things first, im not a major propper or anything but i know that wood CAN and HAS been made to look like metal. Remember the trap from ghostbusters? guess what? it was wood. Remember the trailer from Jurassic Park 2? it was wooden, and both those thign slooked pretty metal to me. Mabye it not the matirial mabye it's how you handle it. All wood need is TLC, and from the sound of it, you rush. This is only by goign on what you stated. Also please don't insult other people plans, it very rude. Next time why don't you try to tell us something nicely instead of try'n to show off…oh and don't try to respond to me with disses or somthing, it makes people look like jerks.

Chamo,
Try this…
Assuming your wood is fairly smooth to begin with, get yourself some grey Krylon primer from Home Depot and spray the wood several times to build up a thick coat. Let it dry for about 15 minutes and sand “lightly” with 150 grit sandpaper. This will remove a lot of loose primer while filling in the grain - that's what you want. Once that's done, move to a 400 grit and do the same. At that point the primer will have a nice glossy sheen to it. Run you hand over the surface. Does it feel like glass? It should. If you still see and feel the grain, repeat the process again until you get the finish you want.
This type of work takes time and is very rewarding in the end. Remember th e golden rule: if it's worth doing, it's worth doing RIGHT.
Good luck!

Wood is good if you know how to work with it.

GBVA, not all the traps were wood. The hero traps, and working ones were infact metal.

Just cover the wood with body filler, sand it well, and primer it, give it a few layers of paint……….
…….looks metal to me!

When working with wood you have to be thinking about how grainy the wood is and how good of shape it is. Just buying the right wood is half the battle! You want wood thats light, cheap, and at the same time a good quality. Sanding can solve a lot of your problems when the actual “wood” property shows on your pack, this may involve several types of sand paper from rough grain to smooth grain. Puddy is another helpful substance that will fill a lot of cracks and mistakes. When the pack is done the first instinct should be to add a couple of coats of primer, paint can and will change the appearence of your pack. Its not as bad as you think, wood is a very strong and sturdy material that is perfect to build your pack from.
