Your opinion on media based censorship

Jesusfreak has a point. its good to a point, but it screwes up the point why certin movies have profanity. look at Ghostbusters (this is always the best example) when Winston says “i've seen shit that'll turn you white” that was the joke. you dont get the same effect when he says “I've seen stuff* that'll turn you white.” its basicly the same phrase, the same scene in the same movie, but the profanity has a harder hit on the funny bone when put into a funny way.

its like in Animal House, after that one guys horse was killed, and when Belushi runs in and just plain says, “Holy Shit!” if it was ment to be funny, and its known to the people watching it, it has a stronger impact on the mind. if he were to say “Holy Crap!”, instead, yeah, its funny, but its more a chuckle funny. its not as funny.

yeah, censorship is good to a point, but sometimes they go overboard with it. and we all know when that happens, its screws up a perfectly good plot, because it was changed from its original form, thus making it not as great.

I believe that censorship should lie in the hands of the parent or guardian. In the case of Jesusfreak's point, yes, I would most likely not want my 3 year old watching some crazy lesbian porn, but then I should be the one stopping that from happening.

Also, to contradict myself, I wouldn't want to have to watch everything that my child is doing and seeing on the television.

But then to contradict myself again, if I want to set my child in front of the TV while I am not there, then I am the one taking the risk of exposing him/her to whatever the TV might be broadcasting at the point. If the child were at a certain age, I would be able to put my trust in that child to make judgment calls regarding the television programming they watched.

all the reason to hide the remote from the kid, or get a V-chipped TV (if they still have them)

Yes. I totally forgot about the V-chip. Install that, and it's like you brought in another spouse just to watch the kids!

Well… It serves a purpose. It's nice to be able to watch ‘The Fugitive’ on cable TV with your 8-year-old nephew in the room without having to constantly change channels in a vain attempt to censor your self. Maybe there should be twice as many channels, like carbon copies of the same ones, but 1 set is censored, and the other is not. As for the porn, I seriously doubt a 3-year-old would watch porn for a minute without becoming bored. And for underage teenagers, I don't know why they treat ‘em like shit. They can’t do nothing until their 18, and sometimes 21. Don't make sense to treat people like crap because they were born after you were.
